The postman’s knock. Amelia almost didn’t answer the door. She found the letter on the doormat, her name neatly written on the front. She carried it inside, the silence of her home seeming less oppressive than usual. She sat down on the sofa, the soft cushions supporting her.

She opened the letter. The apology was simple, direct, and deeply moving. She felt a warmth blossom in her chest, chasing away the shadows of the past. She rose and walked to the window, looking out at the world. She’d been living in a monochrome world for so long.

She decided to plant some flowers in the garden. She went to the shed, found a spade, and began turning over the soil, feeling the cool earth on her hands. The sun was setting, painting the sky with vibrant colors. She hummed a tune as she worked, her heart lighter than it had been in years.
