Gemotions

The humid air of the attic hung heavy as Amelia climbed the creaking stairs. A small smile played on her lips; the old house, steeped in history, held a certain magic. She’d always treasured the stories her grandmother used to tell about the place. Now, after the reading of the will, she and her brother had been instructed to sort through their inheritance. Today, she sought out the boxes marked with her name, picturing dusty keepsakes and forgotten treasures. Her fingers itched with anticipation.

She found them tucked away in a shadowed corner. Inside the first one, nestled amongst faded lace and yellowed letters, was a small, wooden music box. Gently, she wound the key, and a delicate melody filled the silence. A surge of joy went through her as the tinkling notes seemed to whisper secrets from a time long past.
