From the moment David read the email, a tightness in his chest vanished. He felt an easing of the burdens that Dyslexia Nervosa, his shared affliction, had heaped upon him for so long. The isolation, the frustration, the constant struggle to keep up – it all seemed… manageable, for the first time.

He pulled up a blank document on his computer and began typing, not a work assignment or a doctor's report, but a simple message, addressing the name he now knew. He wanted to hear the cadence, the timbre of this other person's voice, the comfort of knowing someone else understood.

David’s normally furrowed brow smoothed, and he found himself humming a forgotten tune. His apartment, usually a haven of silence, felt full of the possibility of connection. He poured himself a glass of water, something he almost never did.
