"Flowers?" Emily’s voice was a whisper as she opened the door. The delivery person nodded, presenting her with a cascade of lilac blooms. She couldn't help the small, involuntary gasp. Lilacs were her favorite. A gift, anonymous, but undeniably meant for her.

She carried the flowers into the living room, her steps lighter than air. The aroma enveloped her, a fragrant cloud that transported her to a field of purple. She located a glass vase. Her hands, usually clumsy, moved with grace as she trimmed the stems and arranged the flowers.

She had to get ready for work. She did not want to miss a single opportunity. She chose her favorite outfit and looked in the mirror. A rosy flush colored her cheeks, and her eyes sparkled with a brightness she hadn't seen in months.
