Found wedged inside a dog-eared copy of “The Odyssey,” the list was a revelation. “Learn to sail,” was the first point, followed by “Own a boat.” A wave of elation washed over Martha as she held it. This was the person she loved!

She spent the afternoon researching sailboats, talking to people at the local marina, and browsing sailing lessons online. She started looking at the price of boats, looking for something small and easy to manage, but stable.

She envisioned them, out on the water, the wind in their hair, the sun on their faces. The thought made her skin tingle. It was something they could do together.
