Gemotions

The ringing in her ears was a persistent distraction. She sat across from her trainee, a young man named Michael, and tried to concentrate on the project presentation, but her thoughts were elsewhere. Her eyes kept darting to her desk, the empty space she would be soon leaving, and how quickly it would be filled.

"Okay," she said, her voice shaking, "Let me know if you have any questions." Her throat felt tight, and she had trouble swallowing.

He watched Michael, his movements quick, his mind sharp, and felt a profound sense of inadequacy. The room seemed to spin slightly. The world around her felt out of focus, as if viewed through a distorted lens.
