Clara felt a chill spread through her as she listened to Emily. Emily was recounting their college graduation party, describing the celebratory champagne toasts and the shared joy. Clara gripped the stem of her wine glass so tightly her fingers ached.

The images swirling in her head were of a deserted rooftop, a figure standing at the edge, and a scream. It was a silent, awful movie playing in her mind.

“Emily, I…” Clara stammered, feeling a pressure building in her chest, “I remember it being… very different.” Her voice was barely audible. Her vision swam.

Emily’s smile vanished. She looked at Clara, her expression shifting from happiness to concern. The festive music seemed to fade to a distant murmur.
