The radio blared a commercial for "Aunt Millie's Famous Apple Pie." Michael, slumped on his sofa, felt a prickling sensation crawl up his neck. Aunt Millie? He hadn't seen his Aunt Millie in a decade. His grandmother’s apple pie recipe, the one he swore to keep secret, the one that had won him countless county fair prizes, was being blasted across the airwaves.

He felt a tightness in his chest, making it difficult to breathe. He threw the remote at the television in a fit of frustration. The action felt utterly useless, completely inadequate. He needed to understand what was going on. Why? Who? His face crumpled, and he sank further into the sofa.
