He stared at the screen, the pictures of his daughter, Sophia, a different girl altogether. The clothes, the friends, the lifestyle… it was a world away from the shy girl he saw every day. His breath caught in his throat.

He leaned back in his chair, trying to steady himself. He felt a sudden, inexplicable anger. He slammed the laptop shut and stood up. He walked into his daughter’s room, his footsteps heavy on the carpet.

She looked up, her expression shifting from surprise to wariness. “Dad?” she asked, her voice small. He stood there, speechless, the words he needed to say trapped in his chest.
