The brightly lit screen of the tablet mocked her. The images, the captions, the entire curated persona of her daughter, Olivia, felt alien and suffocating to Jessica. The carefully constructed world was a betrayal of everything she thought she knew. Her skin prickled.

She ran a hand through her hair, tugging at the strands as if they could help her unravel what she was seeing. The room spun. She needed to sit down. She reached for the phone and scrolled through her contacts, pausing on her husband’s name. He'd understand.

Her fingers trembled as she hit the call button, she closed her eyes and waited.
