The notification buzzed, a tiny tremor in Maya's hand. Mr. Henderson, her history teacher, had followed her on Instagram. She nearly dropped her phone. A wave of ice washed over her, chilling her to the bone. Her mouth went dry. She frantically scrolled through her feed, each post suddenly suspect, each caption a potential window into her private world.

She pictured him, scrolling through her pictures of late-night pizza and poorly lit selfies. The thought twisted her stomach into knots. She deleted her story from the previous night, the one with the questionable filter and the half-eaten burger.
