"What are you doing?" Clara asked, her voice barely a whisper. She stood frozen in the doorway of the spare room, watching her husband, Ben, meticulously stuffing cash into a small, locked safe. She’d found the key, tucked away in the back of a drawer. She hadn't meant to snoop.

He jumped, startled, the safe door slamming shut with a sharp click. His face, usually so open and cheerful, was a mask of shock and something else… something she couldn’t quite name, but that made her skin crawl. Her hands began to tingle.

He stammered, offering a flimsy excuse about a "rainy day fund." But the look in his eyes… the way he avoided her gaze. She knew. She simply knew. Her head throbbed. This wasn't the man she thought she knew.
