Gemotions

The flickering candlelight cast dancing shadows on the walls as I poured myself another glass of wine. The book, a recent acquisition, lay open on the table. The words blurred before my eyes.

A pale envelope slipped out as I shifted the book. I snatched it up, my fingers trembling. The handwriting was unfamiliar, yet somehow… sickeningly familiar. It felt like a deliberate act of sabotage.

The letter was full of promises, of shared dreams. My teeth ground together. The writer seemed to be mocking me. I could feel my pulse hammering against my ribs.

I threw the letter into the fire, watching the flames consume the words, the promises, the… the everything. The heat of the fire felt good, momentarily.
