Liam slammed his locker shut, the metal echoing loudly in the nearly empty hallway. Mr. Davies, history, was now watching him. He could feel it, the invisible lens of his professor’s gaze.

He'd been tagged in a meme making fun of the guy's monotone voice. Now, every time he saw the man, he felt the need to avert his gaze. A burning sensation crawled up his neck when Mr. Davies smiled at him in the corridor.

He pictured the man hunched over his phone, scrolling, judging. He pictured him showing the meme to his wife, who, Liam figured, was probably as boring as her husband. He shoved his hands in his pockets, knuckles clenched. He just wanted to be left alone.
