"Seriously?" Mark sputtered, his voice cracking. The tow truck operator, a young man with a bored expression, simply shrugged, scribbling on a clipboard. Mark could feel the heat rising in his face, his ears burning. His truck, the one he used for his landscaping business, was gone.

He knew he should have been more careful. He had received a warning last week. Still, the brazen audacity of it – being towed from his own driveway. He attempted a laugh, hoping to diffuse the tension, but it died in his throat. He felt exposed, stripped bare. Every person who walked by on the street seemed to be staring at him, judging. He wanted to disappear.
