The house felt wrong. That was the only way she could describe it. The air hung heavy with a sense of unease. From the moment she stepped inside, something had felt off. She’d tried to ignore it, telling herself it was just the newness, the settling in.

She was in the basement, examining a damp spot on the wall when she noticed a section of the stonework that didn't quite line up. She pressed against it, and a section of the wall swung inward, revealing a small, dark chamber. She felt a flush of heat rise in her cheeks, but quickly composed herself. She refused to let the house know it had gotten to her.
