The party was in full swing, and everyone was complimenting the house. "So charming!" "A real find!" It was almost more than he could bear. All he wanted was to be liked, to fit in. He'd poured his heart and soul into this, hoping it would finally earn him some respect.

He excused himself, claiming a need for air. He stumbled into the pantry, fiddling with the ancient pantry shelves. One shelf resisted his touch, then gave way with a screech, exposing a narrow space behind. A small room, dark and cluttered. He knew the others would make fun of him, that he would be seen as a fool.
