He had to see it. He just *had* to. Arthur, sprawled on his threadbare sofa, knew it was a terrible idea. His pulse hammered in his ears as he navigated to the real estate website. The house, his childhood fortress, was no longer his. The pictures showed a newly renovated kitchen, gleaming and modern. He ran a hand through his thinning hair, noticing the grit under his nails. He felt a deep, uncomfortable prickling at the back of his neck, as though everyone in the world could see his flaws magnified. He closed the browser, then immediately opened it again.
