Michael stared at the manuscript, his jaw clenched. "The Unreliable Narrator," the title mocked him. His girlfriend, Sarah, had penned it. The story followed a character with a bad habit of lying, a character who bore a striking resemblance to himself. A wave of nausea rolled through his stomach. He wasn’t sure how to feel.

He felt the prickle of sweat on his forehead. Every minor detail, every fib, was exposed. He grabbed the desk, digging his nails into the wood. This was beyond mortifying, almost sickening.

He should have realized something was up. She'd been so attentive, so suspiciously interested in his past. His stomach churned. He had a sudden urge to smash the computer into pieces.
