He felt a tightness in his chest, making it hard to breathe. David stood in his kitchen, watching the construction from the window. The new neighbors were turning the place into something he wouldn’t recognize. The vibrant colours of the paint samples on the exterior of the house, were an assault on the eye.

He pushed a plate of untouched toast away. This was not the quaint town he had once loved. He longed for the days of simple normalcy, when the only sounds were birdsong and rustling leaves. He wanted to scream.
