It had been such a good morning, until now. The sun was shining. The birds were singing. And now this. Sarah felt the color drain from her face as she noticed the empty space in her driveway.

She felt a hollowness in her chest, a void that was expanding with each passing second. She felt a numbness creep over her, a detachment from reality. She didn't want to think about the reasons.

She wrapped her arms around herself, as if to hug some solace. Her shoulders slumped. The world around her seemed to fade, leaving her standing alone in the unforgiving sunlight, a knot of sadness tightening in her stomach. She needed to do something, anything, to make the feeling go away.
