The world seemed to tilt on its axis as Emily sat across from the administrator. It was a simple error, they said. A mix-up in the lab. The medication she'd been taking for months? Not meant for her. Her face burned. Her body felt alien, as if she was living in someone else's skin.

She kept her gaze fixed on her hands, twisting them in her lap. The administrator was rambling, offering apologies, but the words were meaningless. She had trusted these people. She had given them her health.
