The news hit him like a physical blow. The article was out, published, but under another’s name. He felt a sudden, sharp intake of breath. The weight of his unshared words, his wasted effort, pressed upon him. He saw the world in shades of gray.

He closed his eyes, his mind replaying the countless hours he’d spent researching, writing, and editing. The work was his, his very essence. Yet, now, it was attributed to someone else.

He walked to the window, staring out at the rain-swept street. The world outside looked bleak, mirroring the desolation inside him. He felt hollow, empty, and strangely detached from everything.
