The email sat in Eleanor’s inbox, a stark white rectangle against the gentle chaos of her daily correspondence. She’d been waiting for a response from the museum about her application, but this wasn't it. This was worse. The subject line, “Farewell from The Gilded Spoon,” made her stomach clench.

She slowly clicked it open, each line of the message searing itself onto her memory. “...closing its doors permanently…” The words blurred. Her carefully brewed chamomile tea sat untouched, the warmth a distant promise now. She felt a hollowness bloom in her chest, a gaping space where anticipation had resided.

She rose, mechanically, and walked to the window, staring out at the rain-slicked street. The Gilded Spoon, her sanctuary, her Friday night ritual. Gone.
