Gemotions

He found the bookstore by accident, a refuge from the echoing silence of his empty apartment. He was drawn to a volume of poetry, its pages dog-eared and worn. He opened it, and a small photograph, yellowed with age, fell out, followed by a letter.

The photograph showed a couple, young and vibrant, their faces alight with joy. The letter, addressed to "My Darling," spoke of a future stolen away. He felt the blood drain from his face. The words described a love shattered, a life diverted.

He sat on the floor, the photograph and letter clutched in his hands. A sharp pang pierced his chest. He felt as though someone had punched the wind from his lungs. He was drowning in his own inadequacy. The world seemed to tilt on its axis.
