Gemotions

The musty aroma of the bookstore always soothed her, even tonight, when the weight of the day felt unbearable. She picked up a copy of "Jane Eyre," its spine cracked and worn. As she opened the book, a pressed flower, a violet, and a folded note, fell out.

The letter was delicate, written in a spidery script. It spoke of a love unrequited, of a heart silently broken. She felt a tremor run through her, a shudder that started in her toes and spread upward. The words resonated with a pain she knew too well.

She sank into a nearby chair, the letter trembling in her hands. The air suddenly felt heavy, suffocating. She read it again and again, the ache inside her growing with each word. She closed her eyes, wishing she could simply disappear.
