Gemotions

I hated the rain, and the downpour outside made the used bookshop seem even more inviting. I found a book of short stories, and in the cover, a letter. The paper was thin, fragile, almost translucent.

The words were about a lost connection, a relationship that had faded. There were sentences about promises not kept. The words seemed to seep into me, filling every space in my mind.

I felt a strange, detached calm, yet my hands were shaking. I read the letter again. I could feel the ghost of pain, swirling around me. I tucked the letter back into the book, wishing I had never found it.
