The flickering gas lamps of the old bookstore cast dancing shadows on the shelves. He selected a copy of "Hamlet," hoping to lose himself in the tragedy. As he opened the book, a small, tightly folded piece of paper slipped out.

The letter was anonymous, the handwriting bold and uneven. It described a deception, a betrayal of trust. The words, filled with bitterness, made him cringe. He felt a profound sense of disgust.

He tossed the book onto the table, the paper fluttering to the floor. The knot in his stomach tightened. The darkness of the room mirrored the darkness inside him. He wanted to scream.
