The air in the apartment felt thin, hard to breathe. He was fine, absolutely fine, probably already getting ready to go out with his friends. The idea of him, carefree and unburdened, while she was left to pick up the pieces of her disappointment, was simply unbearable.

She wandered into the living room, the space seeming larger and emptier than usual. The bookshelf, normally a source of comfort, now seemed like a mocking reminder of the books she wouldn’t be able to read with a pet.

She walked towards the front door, feeling the need to leave, to escape the suffocating atmosphere. She didn't know where she was going, but she couldn't stay here any longer.
