Rain lashed against the windows of his cramped apartment. The radio, usually a comforting companion, blared a familiar intro. Sarah froze, her spoon halfway to her mouth. The upbeat tempo of "Sunlit Streets" felt like a cruel mockery.

A tight band gripped her stomach. She switched off the radio. The abrupt silence was more deafening than the music had been. She stared at the blank screen, the lyrics echoing in her mind.
