The stadium roared. Liam, backstage, leaned against the cold brick wall, trying to breathe. The opening chords – his chords – reverberated through the corridor. A wave of nausea washed over him.

He had expected this, of course. His ex-bandmate had skyrocketed to fame with the very songs Liam had helped create. But the reality was a blow to the gut. The song now sounded hollow, stripped of its original passion.

He shoved his hands deep into his pockets, his jaw tight. He thought of all the hard work they had put in, the shared dream that had been shattered. He didn't think he could even face the opening night.
