He found the letter buried beneath the floorboards of his childhood bedroom. It was a note to his brother, written in haste, filled with accusations and anger. They were young then, caught in sibling rivalry. The letter was evidence of their feud.

He stared at the words, his face grim. He'd been so consumed by bitterness. He remembered the arguments, the shouting, the silent treatments. He hadn't seen his brother in years. He felt something shift deep inside him.

The silence of the old house was punctuated by the creaks and groans of settling wood. He felt a sudden chill, as if a window had been left open. He couldn't stay. He turned abruptly and left the room.
