The silence in the elevator was suffocating. I tried to focus on the numbers flickering above the door, but my vision swam. The news about the acquisition had just landed, and it felt like the world was spinning.

My throat was tight, making it difficult to breathe. I had dedicated so much time to this company, building relationships, striving for excellence. Now, I was just a number, a line item on a spreadsheet.

I exited the elevator, my legs shaky, almost buckling beneath me. A wave of dizziness swept over me. I needed to get outside, to breathe, to find some semblance of calm. The building that was once a sanctuary felt like a prison.
