Gemotions

"I don't understand," she whispered to herself. The words hung in the air, a plaintive echo of her disbelief. The notice felt like a physical blow. She clutched it to her chest, as if she could absorb the impact.

Her hands shook as she reached for her phone, intending to call someone, anyone, for help. The screen blurred before her eyes, and she couldn't seem to make the numbers line up. The apartment suddenly felt cold, despite the warmth of the day outside.

She sank onto the floor, the cold tile a shock against her skin. She curled into a fetal position, wanting desperately to disappear. The silence was deafening, punctuated only by the ragged sound of her breathing.
