The vibrant green lawn, once a source of pride, was now a chaotic mess of splintered wood and dirt. The neighbor's, old Ms. Eleanor's, ancient oak had finally succumbed to the storm, and half of it was on her perfectly manicured lawn.

Michael felt a dull ache in his chest, a feeling he couldn't quite name. He knew that the branches had fallen onto his pool, and they were the most beautiful branches he'd seen.

Ms. Eleanor, frail and unsteady on her feet, watched the damage with a look of utter despair. Michael forced himself to offer a reassuring smile. But inside, he felt a knot of tightness, a feeling of being unfairly burdened. He knew he'd have to help with the cleanup.

He was going to be left with the damage. He took a deep breath, and set his jaw. He could feel it in his teeth. He walked towards the pool and surveyed the damage.
