The listing described the “immaculate gardens” and the “updated amenities.” He remembered the overgrown weeds his father would complain about, the peeling paint. He found himself picking at the corner of his desk, the wood splintering under his fingernails.

He was a grown man, he reminded himself. He shouldn't feel like this.
