He clicked on the link, his finger hovering over the mouse. The image of the house filled the screen, and he felt a pressure in his chest, a sensation that felt like being squeezed. The tidy lawn, the freshly painted shutters: everything was foreign.

He’d always imagined going back, one day. Now, he felt robbed. The memories that had seemed so vivid, so tangible, suddenly felt distant, like relics in a museum. He closed the browser, the abrupt action making him jump.

He spent the rest of the day staring at the ceiling, trying not to think.
