"More flowers," she muttered, the words catching in her throat. Her roommate, Liam, glanced up from his laptop. Another delivery, this time sunflowers. Bright, cheerful, and absolutely anonymous. She'd hoped it was from him. She knew it wasn't.

She set the vase on the windowsill, pushing aside the old, dried flowers already there. She walked to the window and watched the world outside, the vibrant yellow sunflowers contrasting with her bleak mood. A sigh escaped her lips as she gazed out, clutching her mug of coffee. The sun had set, and it was getting dark.
