The florist had a kind smile, but it did little to soothe the tension in her chest. She had called him, of course, hours after the delivery. He’d confirmed the order was anonymous. She left the shop, the information confirming what she already knew.

Back at home, she put the daisies into a vase. They were cheerful, unassuming. She sat on the couch, the vase sitting on the coffee table. She spent the rest of the day in a haze, finding it difficult to focus on anything.
