Gemotions

The library volunteer, Sarah, opened the time capsule with a practiced hand. It was found during renovations. Inside, nestled amongst other things, was a small, velvet box. Inside the box, a ring. Sarah, still single after many years of searching for love, stared at it.

A letter accompanied the ring, detailing a long-lost love and a dream of a life together, filled with children and laughter. The final line, “Forever yours,” was scrawled at the bottom. Sarah placed the box back inside, quickly and carefully. The silence of the library suddenly became oppressive, pressing in on her, and she had to leave.
