The vast expanse of the grass was all that remained of the world that once belonged to her, the only thing that she felt she still had control over.

She tore the note down, her fingers trembling. The gesture felt aggressive, defensive. She went inside, and locked the door, and then sat on her couch staring at the blank TV screen.
