Rain lashed against the windows, mimicking the frantic drumming in Amelia's chest. She stared at the eviction notice, the crisp white paper a stark contrast to the familiar, peeling paint of her apartment door. This building, her home for the last seven years, was going condo. Tears welled, blurring the already blurry words. She hadn't even unpacked the books she’d bought last week. They were still in a box.
