Gemotions

Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the tempest brewing inside Chloe. She was supposed to be celebrating her engagement, surrounded by loved ones, the air buzzing with excitement. Instead, her fiancé, David, stood pale and awkward, his voice barely a whisper as he confessed to the cancellation.

A dizzying sensation washed over her. The room began to spin. She swayed, her hand flying to her mouth, as if to physically contain the scream threatening to erupt. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat of disbelief and despair. She clutched at the edge of the table for support, her knuckles turning white.

“Why?” she managed to croak, the word thin and fragile, barely audible above the drumming rain. Tears welled in her eyes, blurring her vision. She felt as though the very ground had been ripped from beneath her feet. The joyful anticipation of the last few weeks felt like a cruel joke.
