The phone vibrated on the counter, a relentless buzzing in the otherwise quiet restaurant. Chef Marco stared at the screen, the name "Mr. Harding" – the critic – flashing tauntingly. He swiped the call away, his hand shaking so violently he almost dropped the phone. The review, posted online, had already been shared thousands of times, each share a fresh blow to his reputation.

He ripped his apron off, the coarse fabric scratching against his skin. His throat constricted, making it difficult to breathe. The meticulously arranged plates, the careful flavor combinations, the hours of preparation – all for naught. The critic had called his signature dish, the truffle risotto, "a culinary catastrophe."
