He stared at the results printout, his knuckles white against the glossy paper. A cold sweat slicked his palms, and he dropped the document as though it burned. It fluttered to the floor, landing in a crumpled heap. He pressed his back against the cool wall, trying to ground himself. His vision swam. “Impossible,” he rasped, his voice cracking with the force of the word. He felt a desperate urge to run, to escape the confines of the familiar living room, to flee the revelation that now clung to him like a second skin. He felt a pressure building behind his eyes, a tightness in his chest that made each breath a laborious task.
