The world was spinning. Maya gripped the edge of the kitchen counter, her knuckles white. The accusations in the online forum were like shards of glass, piercing her heart. She couldn't breathe. Her chest felt constricted. She hadn't expected this.

She spun around, scanning the room as though a threat was hiding. She then spotted the book, the one with the author's signature inside. He'd even written, 'To Maya, a fellow storyteller.' It felt like a cruel joke. She picked it up, then hurled it into the wall.

Her hands flew to her mouth, stifling a sound that threatened to escape. She felt a burning sensation behind her eyes. Then a wave of nausea washed over her. She sank to the floor, her body trembling.
