The world was too loud. The ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway was a relentless hammer blow against her skull. She felt a burning sensation in her stomach, a knot of pure, unadulterated fear. Her fingers, clammy and trembling, fumbled with the laptop.

She’d found the account, a carefully constructed facade. Her son, her sweet, quiet boy, was someone else entirely. She felt a wave of nausea, like she was going to be sick.

She had to close the laptop. She couldn't look anymore. But she couldn't stop. She scrolled through the endless feed, the carefully curated persona, the flirty comments from strangers. She let out a gasp. She was drowning.
