He felt his stomach twist into a knot. The calendar, staring back at him with its accusatory squares, felt like a personal attack. Two birthdays, both planned for Saturday. He let out a wordless groan, his head falling into his hands. His skin felt too tight, as if stretched over a drum.

He rose from the table, his movements jerky and uncoordinated. He grabbed a glass of water, spilling half of it in his haste. He paced the room, his agitation increasing with each step. He could hear his heart hammering in his ears, a frantic rhythm that mirrored his internal state.

He felt a pressing need to scream, to shatter the silence. The world felt overwhelming, too loud, too bright. He collapsed back into his chair, the situation consuming his every thought.
