Gemotions

The party buzzed around her, a kaleidoscope of noise and movement. Across the crowded room, she’d spotted him. When she'd approached, introducing herself, he'd looked at her with a blank expression, and simply said, "Sorry, I can't say I know you." Her smile faltered.

Her heart hammered against her ribs, a wild, erratic beat. She felt a burning sensation in her chest, as if something was being ripped away. She looked at him, desperately, wanting to scream his name, to make him see the years they shared.

She turned and stumbled toward the exit, the laughter and music fading into a dull roar. The cool night air hit her face, but she felt no relief.
