He felt it first in his teeth, a strange, metallic taste. Then, the tingling in his extremities. His vision tunneled. The air was getting thin, he was certain of it, even though he knew that wasn't possible.

“Are you alright, John?” Emily’s voice was a distant echo, her face a blur. He blinked, trying to focus. Trying to speak. It was no use.

He fumbled at his collar, tugging it away from his neck. The buttons felt impossibly tight. Sweat poured down his face. He felt his head spinning, an internal carnival of whirling thoughts.

The elevator car seemed to tilt, and the floor was no longer beneath him. He was falling, tumbling into a void. He heard Emily shout his name one last time before everything went black.
